This was the first folk/country song I ever noticed back as a small child in the early seventies. I could say I grew up with it, it always found me. First the melody, then, little by little, the words, later on the guitar part and the wish if only I could play it someday. I have wanted to learn this for sooo long but I was lost among the many versions and different chord progressions (and my picking was not good enough either).
Then I found the fantastic cover of Songmansinatra120 about a month ago and it showed me the first rays of light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks a lot, Mike.
I know this is not a big find, there are literally dozens of covers of this song out there and also here on YT but I think this only shows that is means something special to many people. Its rhythmically flowing words, its haunting melody and the tricky background tune of the chord progression all add to the charm of this song. I can never get tired of playing it. So here's to you, my friends. As always, still rough around the edges but I don't think it will ever get significantly better anytime soon in this century.
Also please welcome my new guitar, a Samick OM8CE. I still cannot believe how nice it sounds. The quality of this recording does not do justice to it, I am afraid but every word is true that Greg Bennett is saying about its warm, mellow, jingling tone, its harmonics and its beautiful sustain. It is also a lot easier to play than my previous Cort. I like it a lot.
Very relaxing version of this song. Nice mood you left me with. Thanks.
