Peter Jelosits, boy soprano, Vienna Boys Choir, 1977.
J.S. Bach: Mein glaubiges Herze,
from cantata Also hat Gott di Welt geliebt, BWV68.

Mein glaubiges Herze.
Frohlocke, sing, scherze,
Dein Jesus ist da!
Weg Jammer, weg Klagen,
Ich will euch nur sagen:
Mein Jesus ist nah.

With faith never failing
And joyful heart hailing,
I see Jesus near.
Out trouble, sorrow:
Enough for the morrow,
That Jesus is here.

  • Wahnsinn! Mit 17 noch über eine derart fantastische Sopranstimme zu verfügen. Jelosits ist als Solist bis heute noch unerreicht.

  • I temporarily suspended my Bach cantata productions with boy sopranos because, as you say, I could not find soloists to match the quality of Jelosits. Paul Esswood's solos continued to be superb; however, the sameness of the texts made for very similar paintings and images. One of Esswood's most beautiful solos was ruined by Leonhardt's poor conducting and the harsh sound of the stringed instruments. Bonsall, Burrowes, Mockel, Cencic, Williams, etc., were excellent in other recordings.

  • Why suspended ? 3/4ths of a loaf is better than none. The more you continue the more popular it becomes among Boys his age (the music being timeless), the brief but significiant adulation these boys receive from Adults and positive role model status among their peers will surely uncover more Peter Jelosits'. What a better world this would be if Teens listented to Bach as Passionately as Lady Ga Ga, sigh.

  • Beautiful, a long time favorite of mine. Thank you for sharing

  • Lovely

  • very impressive cute voice.nice interpretation.

  • Ahhh, Frohlocke, sing, scherze. So lovely

  • Given the names you mention, may I direct you in the direction of Richard Bonsall (Tadpole Music) and Andrew Swait ("Songs of Innocence" - Signum/ "Salve Puerule" - Herald)? many of us feel that Bonsall's voice was one of the loveliest ever recorded and Andrew I think the best English treble since Burrowes - lovely vocal tone and tremendous technique. There are samples of both on YouTube.

  • I already did. But so far, no answer.

  • why don't you ask the choir?
