An abandoned junior high school in Bremerton, Wa. The school closed in 2008. Built to accommodate Baby Boomers, it was supposed to be cheap and shoddily made. Since it would also cost a lot to tear it down, the district chose to let the structure sit and rot. So, as a tax payer, I decided to go walk around the rotten old thing and visit it.

While there, I met a big guy, two teenage "shed jumpers," and a guy with a dog.
This is probably the creepiest place I've ever been. In spite of having some pedestrian traffic, the campus is littered with broken glass, particle board fragments, and chips of brick (pulled loose from the facade to be thrown through the windows). None of the grounds are maintained. And the maze of buildings just goes on and on and on . . .
There was a high wind on the day I filmed and I was pretty nervous to be there. I kept assuming I'd be kicked out at some point, but was able to prowl around for over a half hour!

  • It is, yes. Apparently it was also the high school at the start of its existence. I may pull this down to correct the title: It's supposed to be used for groups like the Special Olympics. I hope they clean up the glass and brick before they have the poor special kids in there.

  • @mookau yes

  • I went to middle school here. I remember it like it was yesterday. I can still see faces of students and teachers. Time Flies. Next time I go back to Btown. I am checking this out.

  • i went here the last year that it was open. it may look abandoned but football games occur in the back field. also my mom works for the BHS kitchen and she said she has meetings there with her co-workers a few times a year.

  • It was built in the 50s as East High School; I graduated from there in 1975. What you called the "community garden" was the old running track and football practice field. The school was designed by a California firm (flat roofs are the give-away) and had leaking-roof problems from the beginning, which were expensive to patch, hence its untimely demise. The "elevator" door actually led to the gym's locker rooms.

  • If you think the old high school is massive what do you think about the one we actaully use?

  • Yeah, it really does look like Silent Hill. If the film makers want a good location for the next movie, this would be the place. haha.

Yep...Kitsap is a sad place indeed. I'm from PO BTW.

  • Wasn't this East high School, then Bremerton High School? Located off of Wheaton Way?
