    I think the reason to have another person edit (or at least sit with you while you edit) is so you don't get married to a certain shot that doesn't work. A lot of times Directors sit in the room with the editors anyway (and sometimes they don't depending on the film or show) and the reason being is sometimes it helps having another eye on what shot works better, or flows better.
