We saw what the emerald ash borer was doing to our area and wanted to create something positive and sustainable for our communities. The Urbanwood Project's partners work with arborists to collect usable logs from dead, dying, and other removed trees to turn them into products like lumber and flooring. We take wood that was a waste problem in our area and recycle it into green products that save resources and support local jobs.
A recent Michigan State University study showed that our region throws away enough high-quality wood from urban trees to build over 360 average-sized homes every year. What could it mean for our environment and our economy if we could reclaim more of this valuable resource?
Wouldn't you like for your next home improvement project to have a unique, green story? Visit urbanwood.org or our retail operation at Recycle Ann Arbor's ReUse Center to learn more.
Just wonderful.Keep up the great work everyone.I've owned a Granberg Mark III Alaskan Chainsaw Mill since 1993.So nice that the word is getting out regarding using a free local resource that would otherwise be wasted.Plus its great because every piece cut & milled is unique, especially when you need a large size or unusual shape for a future project..
