The XL's appeared in the 1967 MGM movie "A Time to Sing" as a result of being the winner of a VOX* music contest. Starring in the movie were Hank Williams, Jr., Shelley Fabares and Ed Begley. Members of the band are Bob Guy (organ), Mike Heinrich (guitar), Joe McClean (1st trumpet), Gary Martin (2nd trumpet - but really a sax player), Jim Grotheson (bass - filling in for Craig Ziegenhorn who was in Vietnam) and Les Thede (drums).
*The Beatles used VOX equipment and the XL's (as a result of winning the contest) dominated the stage with six (yes 6) Super Beatle amplifiers, a Hammond B3 with 2 Leslie tone cabinets, Voice of the Theatre PA speakers and a Ludwig double bass drum kit. (They were once threatened with a law suit for wall damage).
