Scotland is currently in the red (ie 7.4% of GDP per annum) but it is not as bad as the UK as a whole which is 9.2% of GDP.

@markflack "Where's that funding gonna come from if Scotland pulls away??" When looking at what a country costs you have to include what it pays into the coffers too. The Scottish deficit over the last few years, and again the new GERS figures are just out yesterday, is less than in the UK as a whole. In short it more than pays its way and is not subsidised by anyone else.

Facts... Every person in Scotland costs the government approx £11.00ea per year whereas England is £7.00ea... Where's that funding gonna come from if Scotland pulls away?? Personally I think that they should be allowed to.. It's their country and own choice!!

I hope Scotland does go independent. English, Wesh and irish tax payers would be better off as we subsidise the Scots. Our tax payers pay up billions so the Scots dont have to pay tuition fees or prescription charges. Scotland simply cant go independent because it doesn't have enough people to pay tax to keep it afloat. Its a shame but its an unfortunate fact.

@KINGxTROLL England needs Scotland more than Scotland needs England, why do you think the Westminster government are so desperate to keep us in the UK? If we really did sponge off England your government would've got rid of us long ago!
