Being able to buy a plane ticket, hotel room doesnt get you respect it gets you kilngers. People will always flock to travelling pro's and kiss tail. Things are easier in the line up, anywhere in the world, today but that doesnt have to be a bad thing. Kooks are kooks and locals can sometimes themselves be kooks. Travellers need to mind their manners and remember that surfing ability does not give the right and etiquette is paramount. Local's remember where your destination salary comes from.

@XxmattitudexX kalihiwai beach in hawaii is heavier and thicker than mavs or cortez and not to mention its only 3 feet deep. Pipeline beach has killed more people than any other surf spot in the world combined, not just random people either, pipe kills lifetime experienced sufers, bodyboarders and photographers. It doesnt claim lives of people who cant swim it claims lives of professionals. This alone shows its fierce reputation and why its considered the deadliest wave on earth

I grew up on Oahu and have been surfing since I could walk, and believe me, Hawaii waves are gnarly, all shores, all islands, but look how many guys have died in the last ten years at Mav's, period. My top 5 gnarliest waves in the world, in no particular order, Pipe, Teahupoo, Mavericks, The Right (south Oz), and Shipstern Bluff

@GodAlmightyWorship obviously we got a dick wagging contest but for arguments sake. cortes bank 100 miles out in middle of the ocean no lineups i cant think of a heavier situation.u might not think mavs is heavy but people die there , cold water large sharks.

california has a vast coastline + islands Hawaii is great but on any given day somewhere up or down the cali coast is firing .

when taken as a whole it CAN hold a torch to haw + wedge in summer is as tuff as NORTH SHORE

There is no "localism". Don't let the industry fool you with their comments. I surf better than 99.9% of all SoCal surfers because they lack quality waves/practice. I get respect because most people would rather watch me surf as if they didn't know such things were possible that I make look so easy per a simple line on a good wave. Good to me is what they call perfect in SoCal. SoCal is desperate to save value but it's really gone to hell back by year 1999, one year before all the hype
