In the 1930s Johnny Shines travelled with Robert Johnson and the great man's influence is evident on Shines' nervous vocals and bottleneck guitar style. 'Brutal Hearted Women', recorded in 1953, is an excellent blues with some genuinely poetic lyrics. The harmonica is played by Big Walter Horton.
There has never been any doubt that it is Big Walter on harmonica.
Little Walter is THE MAN for me but Big Walter made his mark for sure, with this record and the other side of it, 'Evening Sun' and his own 'Hard-Hearted Woman' and 'Have A Good Time' amongst others.
Best wishes

that "nervous" comment could be VIBRATO which along with POWER is what Johnny Shines is known for!

Yeah, Big Walter was one of those guys who could play in a bunch of different styles-- including Little Walter's.

BumbleBee38 is right, it's Horton on harp. Us old guys have known that for 45 years or more. We TALKED to them when they were alive.........
