Well l don't really know, Leyla had a fabulous voice.

Bad was for her to have meet with Caballé and in a music conference she made a joke saying that she rediscovered Bellini and Donizetti scores, and Caballé recorded them.

It may be true.

Leyla had some thing more than voice, she was a great actress.

Oui pour moi Leyla est la meilleure cantatrice chantant cet air, aussi excellente Leontine, mais les autres.. fameuses oui, mais.. il y a toujours un passage de cet air qui n'est pas correct. de votre avis.

Bien sur il y a Callas, Tebaldi et leontyne Price, mais tout bien considéré la Gencer est ma préféré, je trouve qu'elle est la synthèse de toutes leurs qualités.

SIMPLY FABULOUS! TO me - no one has ever sung this aria as beautifully or expressively as Gencer! The legato is floated exquisitely. And those high D's are breath-taking! Every time I hear her sing this - it kills me! Shame on the recording companies that didn't sign her!!!! Queen of the Pirates - you will always be remembered and revered by those love great singing and artistry!! Thanks for posting this!!

@XPRT10R No, this is from a recording from 1956 when she recorded 4 arias with Arturo Basile. I have the CD and this is definetely that aria from the 1956 recording :)

@sezgin86 ehmmm no. Leyla sang Leonora (Trovatore) for the 1st time in 1957. It is a LIVE recording. Meaning it was done in a studfo but for live broadcast, the recording of which was later used for one of the early RAI TV (televison) experiments of opera videos. A filmed version of the opera sinched to the previously recorded track. And it is 1957 with Del MOnaco, Bastianini, Barbieri. You can match the arias. They are identical. Trust me on this :)))
