There was a discussion on marlinowners of a few fellows not liking their digital scales, so I decided to make a vid showing the accuracy of digital and balance beam scales.

  • Would you recommend an electronic scale or a balance scale for checking pistol powder? I am about to start reloading and looking at equipment and cant decide what kind of scales to get. I wasn't sure which one would be more accurate for small loads like 3.3 grains for the 380acp. I would really appreciate your thoughts. thanks

  • @backwoods223 I only use my digital scale now. I just use a check weight every 5-10 rounds which it doesn't even need it.

  • I can't wait to own a digital scale. I don't care what people say about them. I'd just like to have it to cull projectiles, brass, etc.

For powder, I would definately have the balance beam one set up to spot check the digital charges, just to be safe.

I also see you learned about the Ammosmith "powder trickler" LOL

With the "trickler" if you hold your hand on the table, and hold the brass between your fingers it will be much easier to use.

    Looks about right...

  • Yeah. I finally have a real trickler now and it works pretty darn good. It's an RCBS and was sent to me by a friend in missouri. Actually.... I trickle out all the charges on my balance beam now and transfer it over to the digital, but I always use something as a check weight for the digital.

  • @Iraqveteran8888 I have a lyman electronic scale and I really do like it. Acurracy is really good. As you can see the guy was a little heavy on the balance beam scale and it showed up on his electronic scale. I recommend giving the pan and plate area of the scale a once over with a dryer sheet (Ammosmith is the freaking MAN). Neat trick is to get the powder flow set up and charge set, use a ball type ammo, zero the scale with the brass you are using, charge, and weight. Repeat for accuracy.

  • @shaunpisk I don't even touch these two scales anymore. Got a chargemaster combo.

  • @brianszoo Aint telling me anything I don't know. Had a chargemaster for a long time.

  • thanks for the video.

  • Cool... I have the same two scales.... although I use the electronic one mostly for my rifle charges. First I set my powder thrower a little less than the charge I want, then move the pan onto the elec' scale, then trickle in my power slowly with my home made powder trickler. Good Job showing the difference. For pistol, I'm not too picky, I set the powder thrower to the charge I want and go from there.

    Cheers.

  • What you really want to do is get yourself a calibration weight, and weigh it on both the balance and the digital scale.

  • Nice!!!I`ll prob.get both too, better.safe than sorry!! Keep up the good vids!! Tommy;-)
