  • Hello! I have a question for you. Me and my girlfriend just moved into an older home and there are NO outlets that I feel even remotely safe plugging things into in the bathroom. I was curiouse if there was any way to wire an outlet into the light switch. I took the panel off and there is only a black wire and a white wire (hot/neut) I was wondering how this will work. I just need a temporary solution to a temporary problem.

  • If there is not a pair of romex cables (with black/white/GND wires in each) coming into the box then you will not be able to wire an outlet in it. Normally there should be one romex cable wire pair for the hot side, and another for the feed going to the light switch. The circuit that you are describing/desiring does not allow you to have a return for the outlet.

  • I think you forgot something.

How do you know the two screws are truly set to be one circuit on that side you specify.

You mentioned a tab but you did not fully explain that. Can you please either update your video to explain

it further. I suspect most of these require bending the tab though it is far from obvious.

  • rss425 - This video is about having the outlet controlled by the switch so there is no need to break the tab. If you watch my other video on configuring the combo switch/outlet where the outlet is always powered I discuss removing the tab.
