Employing 2.5 million workers in 4,500 garment factories, Bangladesh's garment industry generates over three quarters of the country's total export revenue. In spite of the central role the sector plays in the nations economy, Bangladeshi garment workers suffer from appalling conditions in the factories while earning well below a living wage.

The National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF), a Bangladeshi trade union for garment worker and a War on Want partner organisation, is leading the struggle against sweatshop conditions in Bangladesh's factories.

In this video Amirul Haque Amin, President of the NGWF, discusses his groups fight for the rights of garment workers.

  • We have made a documentary about garment workers featuring Amirul, he is a great guy dong alot of garment workers in bangladesh.

  • God bless and good luck. Real unions are really needed in Bangladesh but there is definitly great opposition. When the sweatshops are owned by the politicla party members and/or thier families who serve in the government this is great opposition.
