The old teaser for the first version of the OV-10 Documentary. I've left it on You Tube so viewers can appreciate footage that I could not put into the final production due to a computer failure.
@RolloTheApollo In 1969, I saw an A-4 drop "nape" on hard-core NVA position in Vietnam. One of the cannister bounced and did not explode. In a flash, the OV-10 pilot swooped down and fired rockets into it and it lit up like the 4th of July right under the OV-10's. He escaped the flames, but I bet the "rear seat" pilot felt the heat on his ass. LOL As a Marine Infantry Unit leader back then. I would have put a dead dog in a V-22 let alone my Marine platoon. 46's and 53's in hot LZ's. Ooorah!
We I was stationed at Patrick AFB 1n the mid 80's we had these. Used to get incentive flights all the time. They may be slow, but a very nice flight each time. Especially when the 50 cals were on the pods and you'd get to strafe at the Avon Park bombing range.
Da Nang Diary is a very good book about a OV-10 FAC. Highly recommend it especially for those who actually fly. It and "Flying Through Midnight" are the fixed wing pilots Chickenhawk!
@tradethatthing Man the OV-10 is one of my favorite aircraft too. I'm on MCAS new river right now and i had no idea that OV-10s were ever here. Right now its crawling with V-22s.
There are reports that BOEING has plans on producing a new generation of OV-10s for counter insurgency operations in Iraq of Afghanistan. It will be called OV-10X. It will have the same design but with upgraded electronics, engines, and be able to carry smart bombs.
