Back in the day even before Tascam Porta recorders.....the 246 for example, you had to use two cassette decks and record to just the right or left channel, then overdub onto a 2'nd cassette deck for a crude multitrack effect. It worked well for what it was. I recently unearthed one of my early efforts and thought I'd throw it up on Youtube for fun. The original track was recorded in the late 80's....just an acoustic guitar looped through one of the earliest digital delay pedals -- the Ibanez DDL, which had a staggering 1.8 seconds of delay. What was very cool about this pedal was it had a very cool decay when set at the highest repeat setting.....very much a looper, but with a nice organic slow trailing off. Also, the early gen digital delays were almost analog sounding in that they would take on gnarly artifacts (not today's ugly digital artifacts) that would enhance the sound with every repeat. Very nice.....So, what I have here is that original track ....just noodling and whacka-chacking, playing with the delay pedal. Nothing stellar at all, but I like the sound. Then in oh....'91 I ran the original track through my Rhodes piano's stereo tremolo circuit which gives it that cool sine wave back and forth from left to right. I then overdubbed (with cassette decks) the maraca and wooden tongue drum. Microphone was Realistic stereo mic. Nothing too brilliant, but I just love the sound of tape......Video footage is not related of course.....shot Jan. 2011 north shore Oahu. Peace......
thats pretty cool mate !......i like it !
