KOLTEN WONG JR UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII MLB DRAFT 2011
-
Kolten and his family made a very wise decision to send him off to college rather than sign a professional contract out of High School. During the first 2 years of school at UH he has transformed his game into a 1st round draft pick in 2011.
-
He played for Team USA after his freshman year and decided to play the entire season in the Cape Cod Summer league after his sophomore year. What a great decision that was. The league is heavily scouted by every organization all summer long, and he did not dissappoint. He batted .341 in a league where only 5 batters hit over .300. and posted a .426 OB%. The Cape league is notoriously a pitching dominated league and Kolten wasn't fazed a bit.
-
His athleticism made the transition from Catcher to 2b an easy one. He displayed soft hands and a quick turn at second. His arm is good enough to play SS but he is best projected in the major leagues at 2b.
-
This kid is a five tool player, and a top of the order hitter in the major leagues and his best tool may just be his baseball savvy/ instincts on the field. He knows when to bunt, when to take the extra bag, when he needs to drive the ball and when its time to move a runner. He is a baseball player in every sense of the word and simply a can't miss player. His character is off the charts and his work ethic is one that teams dream about.
-
You can bet teams are well into planning their picks for next years draft and trying to find a way to land him. He probably won't last through the first half of the first round.

  • Proof is in the pudding, meat. Lifetime .360 hitter, killed it in the cape. Have fun buying a ticket to watch him in the league.

  • @TheATLgamerPB his OPS in the minors was over 0.200 higher than the average, his strike to walk ratio was nearly 1:1, he bat over .330, and his OBP was over 0.400. he's currently considered the 4th best prospect for the cardinals despite the fact that he was 21 years old for the whole season and doesn't turn 22 until october. i think he's pretty good.
