Love Bites—Chapter 4

Demi- Joe, your eyes . . . (He looked away and I knew something was up.)
Selena- Come with me. (She grabbed my arm. I didnt want to go with her.) Sorry, I just think hes in a bad mood.

I didnt see Joe at lunch with the rest of the family. I did see Josh though. He followed me around everywhere as I looked for Joe.

Josh- He isnt here, you know.
Demi- Who? (Of course I knew who.)
Josh- You know who. (Do I sense a bit of envy in his tone?) Listen, the Jonas are weird.
Demi- how are they weird?
Josh- They dont look like they age. Its creepy! (I gotta admit, he made me laugh.)
Demi- Some people are like that.
Josh- Ive heard stories about them . . .
Demi- Dont tell me you believe the gossip here.
Josh- No, this is true stuff.
(Just then, I see Joe coming around the corner.)
Demi- Ill see you later Josh.

I walked up to Joe and he looked away.
Joe- Hey.
Demi- Hey, you werent here for lunch.
Joe- Yeah, I went out for lunch. (He looked back up and his eyes were maroon again. What the hell was going on?)
Demi- I seriously think the florescence affects your eye color. (I smiled)
Joe- Yeah, right, I think it does.
Demi- (I moved his bangs over with my shaky hand. I was afraid that he would snap at me or something but he was okay with it.)

We walked to class together and I took another seat next to him. When the teacher told us to partner up, he chose me.
I watched as he gently adjusted the lens of the microscope. His face was, like his family, flawless. He had a face expression made of stone as he stared intently through the lens. His head snapped up.

Joe- its focused if you want to look. (I saw him staring at me.)

Halfway through the class, were already done with the lab. I move my hand over to remove the slid when I cut my finger on the glass.

Demi- Shit . . . (I get up and cover it with a napkin. I look up at Joe and his eyes widen and face goes white.) Oh, Im sorry; you dont like blood do you? (Joe just shakes his head no and turns away without saying a word. I excuse myself from the room and clean up. By the time I get back the class is empty and Joe is the only one still packing his stuff up to leave.)
Joe- Oh, hey.
Demi- Hey, sorry about the whole cutting my finger thing. I can be a little—
Joe- Clumsy? (He shot a look at me. I just rolled my eyes. Its not my fault hes scared of a little blood.)
Demi- Right . . . (I got my bag and left, only to see Josh waiting for me.)
Josh- Hey, theres this friend of mine—
Demi- No way. (I was not being set up on a blind date.)
Josh- Give this guy a chance.
Demi- (I really didnt feel like arguing.) Who is it?
Josh- (He smiled) His name is Taylor.
Demi- That Lautner guy on the wrestling team? Not my type.
Josh- Since when do you have a type? (Hes got a point.)
Demi- I guess its a date then . . . (I shouldnt have agreed to this.)

I didnt know the date was going to be tonight. He picked me up in his daddys Mercedes and drove us to a theatre just out of town.

Taylor- I cant wait to see this movie. (We were going to see Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant. Of course he was psyched but I dont believe in vampires.)
Demi- Yeah, me too. (I lied.)

We watched, he chewed on popcorn, tried to make moves on me, totally failed, and we hushed noisy individuals. It was your typical movie date. We walked outside and I pulled Joes jacket tighter around me. It was really cold and I just wanted to get home. Josh owes me one. Just then, Taylor reached over me in the car seat that we just entered and kissed me. I smacked him good.

Demi- What the hell do you think youre doing?!
Taylor- Demi, please dont pretend like you dont want this. (Whos pretending?)

He pushed all his weight on me and I tried my very best to fight him off.
