@UppityQueer Try "The Passionate Friends" with Claude Rains. He's delightful!

Another place where the trailer differs from the final cut of the film: in the trailer, the first bridge scene is from a slightly different POV, and the scene ends after the kiss, not during.
I rather appreciate the differences between trailer and film - gives more clues into Alec's perspective.

The talents of Noel Coward, David Lean and Sergei Rachmaninov, plus great actors - this movie kicks ass even now in 2009.

Celia told Noel Coward that she didn't want to play the role because she was too old. Thanks to Noel for convincing her she was wrong. In fact, that Johnson is no youngster, yet beautiful, is absolutely fitting for the film.
When Celia is out walking at night trying to get things straight in her mind a bobby suspects her of prostitution. The moral triumph in the end is fine, but it's a desperately unhappy movie, with its visions of a "high romance" fading, fading, gone.
