It wasn't on youtube, so I decided to upload it. You can also read Ebert's written review from 1996 here: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19960412/REVIEWS/60...

i think there is still a misconception that animated movies are intended for children. westerners seem just as capable of handling violence and nudity in war, action, and horror movies, but assume that animated pictures are going to be kid movies.

  • Well Hayao's leads are almost entirely female, and definately not sexual. It would defeat the purpose of his beliefs, and I respect that.

  • funny how the sequel deals so much with sexuality and objectification

  • @EdwardsComment

Yeah, that seems to be the biggest problem.

  • S&E going on a tangent about how provocative the main character is kinda reminds me of when Hayao Miyzaki went to Canada for the opening of Princess Mononoke in that country and he got interviewed. One of the first questions he was asked was about the intense violence that was in very few scenes, as if it ruined the whole movie. Westerners raise such big deals about these things. If the Japanese can handle these subjects maturely, why can't we?

  • a classic movie and one of the best films of the ninties

  • @lovetownsend gaijin otaku tend to think everything about Japan is perfect, it becomes a hobby for our society now, can't help it
