The closer your skis the better your balance.

People seem to get hung up by the fact that the skis are closer together. Modern race technique has a much wider stance. I recommend that improving skiers try to use a wider stance in tougher snow conditions. You will soon realize the need for Harb's 'Bullet proof carved short turns' because you will be exhausted or face down in the snow

nice vid. short turns (a little slided) are the perfect technique for speed control, for all terrain. for steep, crowded or icy slopes, it's the only way, in fact.
