  • Until proven otherwise The U.S.A. is the greatest military power of today. Number of troops mean nothing against technological weaponry. Besides, which other super power is at war most of the time? With wars fought come experience which translates to efficiency at neutralizing the enemy. Before anyone says "but China and Russia have nukes, blah, blah, blah..." No one on this Earth wants a nuclear war, not even the crazy lady that rules North Korea.

  • @IauthenticI Your comment made me laugh at the north korea part xD you rock

  • turns out all that high-speed tank range training paid off.

    wow. nice work.

  • @Goldrag no, because they were not there to fight a war. The whole raid was an attempt to capture the top officers of the local Somolian warlord. UN red tape prevented the americans from bringing anything other than lightly armed infantry, transport helicopters and utility vehicles. Had they been able to bring tanks, gunships and artillery the somolians would have been slaughtered on an even greater scale (think tens of thousands).

  • @zzzpqd I think you're right, sorry for rude word, but "we had few support troops and very little logistical support" - this is fail. These like in Russia - we go in Groznii (in Checnya), and SURPRISE - were 10 times more enemy then we think. But in Russia was traitor, wtf in US? they doesn't see 4000 enemy soldier? why US force be so small? Because they doesn't know anything about enemy. Why they doesn't know? Because they not the best

  • @zzzpqd ... 12500 tanks of ALL types from Allies! These include M3 Grant, M4 Sherman, Churchill, Cromwell etc...

From those 12500, only 4100 were M4 Shermans. So, you can now calculate how much percentage is 4100 from 96000. Nowhere even close to 25%... even compared only to T-34, Shermans were about than 10%.

    -

But it is true that Soviet tanksmen loved and respected Shermans. Not like British tanks which even were not used in battle and were used in another way. :)

  • @zzzpqd ... to get from the USA to the USSR through Atlantic!

"Harrison Mark Accounting for War: Soviet Production, Employment, and the Defence Burden, 1940–1945."

In this book you will find a table with production numbers of all soviet tanks of every type (including light, medium and heavy tanks) from 1940 till 1945. According to this table around 96000 tanks were produced in the USSR in 5 years (1941-1945) and 51000 of them were T-34.

Now... according to Lend-Lease acts, the USSR received...

  • @zzzpqd "25% of all Russian tanks were US made Sherman tanks." - This figure is WAY TOO HIGH and exaggerated! USSR was receiving also M3 Grant tank and British useless tanks. If Shermans were 25%, then together with other tanks this number will raise up to 35-40%! You want to say that every second tank of Red Army was of foreign origin! It's not right! It is easy to understand that this number is very wrong just by looking at production rates of Soviet factories and time needed for a ship...

  • @Goldrag How do you figure? A few US troops killed thousands of Somali in a shoot out on their own terrain. The US had neither tanks nor major air power engaged we lost 72 dead against thousands of dead Somali. The US was there on a humanitarian mission not a war footing and we had few support troops and very little logistical support and still, like in Vietnam we killed thousands while being outnumbered on their ground and still prevailed.

  • @BitnikGr Most German ww2 tanks on the Western Front were destroyed by Air Power. The Soviet tanks were supplied greatly by the US. 25% of all Russian tanks were US made Sherman tanks. The Soviet tankers loved the Shermans as fast and reliable and in number kicked Tiger tanks to the curb. US strategy at the time was to build many tanks not just a few super tanks as was the Soviet ideas towards the medium T-34 tank which proved excellent against German armor.

  • I can still hear my Democrat uncle back in the 80s, cursing so hard his damn face turned purple......."THAT GODDAMN REAGAN!!!! ....SPENDING ALL THAT FUCKING MONEY ON FANCY EQUIPMENT WE'LL NEVER USE!!!".... or....."HE'S JUST TRYING TO IMPRESS GORBECHEV." Guess what? His son went to war in Gulf One riding high in one of those fine M1s that "GODDAMN REAGAN" spent "ALL THAT MONEY" on, and he came out ALIVE. I don't hear ol' Uncle running his big fucking mouth now. I say GOD BLESS REAGAN!!
