* Clip from the film Gettysburg *
(The Union officer shot was Major Cromwell of the 124th NY. He was shot in the head moments after leading an advance on the pressing 1st Texas Regiment. The Colonel of the 124th NY, Augustus Van Horn Ellis, shouted moments after Major Cromwell was hit, "my god, my god, your Major is down, save him, save him." Men of the 124th NY ran into the swarm of enemy bullets to recover the body of Maj. Cromwell. Shortly after, the 124th NY routed and the Colonel of the 124th NY was also shot in the head (not shown in this clip) and fatally killed on the field.)
On July 2nd, 1863 in Gettysburg, PA the 124th N.Y.S.V. held the flank of the Union Army line in what is known as Devils Den. With the valiant effort of the 124th NY and Smiths battery, they together delayed the advance of the Confederate Army--which had overwhelming numbers. If it wasnt for the men of Orange County, New York (the 124th NY) and Smiths battery in Devils Den, the day could of changed and the Confederate Army could have taken the vital flank of Little Round Top and changed the course of the war.

That happened only yards away from devils den, where are the boulders?

The boulders are behind the unit. This engagment was in the triangular field, on the extreme flank of the Union line.
