There shouldn't even be a comparison between Brett and Downey Jr, one is playing The Great Detective and one playing an action hero who's only claim to popularity is the name of great icon. Jeremy is without a doubt the best Sherlock Holmes in my mind, if Conan Doyle could have seen how he played the part I reckon he would have believed it was as close to the man as an actor could come. Great actor and great person.

Without a doubt the BEST Sherlock Holmes ever! He was a tremendous actor and very talented. Robert Downey Jr. is an all right actor but quite seriously does not hold a candle to Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes.

I always thought that Basil Rathbone was THE Sherlock Holmes until I saw Jeremy in the television series. He was just perfect as Holmes. He captured the loveable arrogance that Rathbone did not show. I got addicted to the series, and was so shocked and pleased to see My Fair Lady again and recognize him as Freddie. Thanks so much for this tribute.
