Sammy Ward was motown's blues man, he came from Montgomery Alabama, his older brother was in a gospel group, that also had Paul Williams father as a member, Sammy signed to Tamla in 1960, here is his single Part Time Love from 1962, this song was covered by Luther Allison in the 70's

  • Once Motown decided to go pop they had no place for blues singers.

  • Sammy was one of many Motown artists that didn't get the respect and promotion he should of.He was my 2nd wife's cousins uncle,about a year before his death he told me that the Motown museum in Detroit tried to charge him to get in!

  • Have you seen the multi -disc collections of the complete Motown singles collection they are like all of the motwon releases from each year from the beginning of the label.

  • I had this single. One of my fav. Sammy Ward tunes. Check out Sammy's "You Got To Change" on Soul Records. Best release on the Soul label.
