Demonstration of the greater than one thrust to weight ratio of the F-22 Raptor. The Raptor's thrust to weight ratio is 1.26, meaning its maximum thrust is 1.26 times more than its weight at Earth's surface. Thanks to this and thrust vectoring, some pretty amazing post-stall maneuvers can be performed. In actual flight maneuvers such as Pugachev's Cobra (increasing angle of attack to 90 or greater, then returning to level flight) can be performed. In x-plane, hovering is even possible, although it is not possible in real life.

Made using X-plane.

  • What a load of BS.I want to see real thing, not a crappy sim videos.

  • Isn't that a gigantic generlisation? THIS simulator has an incorrect flight model.

  • 0:24. Is that 3D vector thrust I see??? I though F-22 have 2D

  • I'll never understand you breed of assholes who post cheesy simulator videos.

Not a true hover, even an F/A-18 can do this. The plane would be basically standing not exactly perpendicular to the ground, but at maybe a 45 degree angle where the plane is slightly moving forward but it's not from the lift generated by his wings, because obviously his plane is at a 45 degree or higher angle of attack. The engines are most likely running at 100% mil power.

Saw it at an airshow. Pretty cool. Have footage but don't feel like uploading.

  • this is only a simulator i wanted to see the real thing wtf

  • Wrong sir. The thrust of the plane has to be greater than the force of gravity, i.e. the weight of the plane, in order to perform a hover maneuver. Airplanes that can produce greater than 1 thrust/weight ratio with no freestream velocity are able to hover.

  • Some of these guys dont realize that without simulations some aircraft may never have been built. X plane is great for being able to make your own aircraft. The F22 is cool.

  • gay

  • damn you're right XD
