i flew from gillette to sheridan and back every other weekend for 7 years growing up..... wind sucks.... you can do it in 45 minutes or 15 depending on wind..... a bit bumpy too.....
You're exactly right. They put the newest commercial pilots on regional carriers because the pay is crap. I worked for a regional carrier on the ground side and many new pilots would make less than 20k/year.
Too many people with money go buy the most airplane they can afford. When I lived in Pueblo, a wealthy man put his plane into a mountain in SW colorado. Why? He lost engine power because he forgot to de-ice the carbs. He was flying a Cherokee, but had around 200 hours in a C172. Too much aircraft for experience. A majority of GA crashes are due to pilot error. Commercial pilots know what they are doing because they have a huge amount of training and experience.
They're not deathtraps if you know how to fly them. I bet it's safer than commercial. You also don't have to deal with the TSA and other idiots on the plane.

That's a sure way of having them treat their jobs like retail employees do! Someone ought to look into that.

I think many commercial commuter flights go down also...I've heard it's because they start the lesser experienced pilots on those.

Unfort the small planes are more often involved in crashes than the larger ones...
