  • @dtnelson66 Holbein reduced their range to something like 150 colors a couple of years ago. I agree with you about Sennelier's quality though.

  • @threeby8887

Holbein has a collection of 225 colors in their catalog of oil pastels. Personally, I think Sennelier is a better brand (an has better color fastness), unfortunately they only have 120 shades in their oil pastel collection.

  • Man this is depressing. I'm an oil pastelist, and we have practically nothing in comparison to soft pastelists. There are something like 15-20 brands of artist-quality soft pastels available, in color ranges of 100-500 colors, some ranges even more than that. We oil pastelists only have 4 or 5 artist-quality brands available, and the largest color range is 125 or 150.

Man I wish someone would make more oil pastels, before I lose my sanity.

  • Thanks for all the teaching! I certainly learn a lot about the brands and the diference between a soft and a sanded paper!!! Muchisimas gracias!!

  • Please help me with this question. First off, I love to draw portraits in pastels. Im not an educated artist I'm but I do okay naturally. I have learned a lot watching your videos and a I think I that i would love to try to draw on smooth paper over the rough one becauseI like to blend. My question is this, why would one want to blend on rough paper if the pastel does not really blend on it in the first place?

  • I completely understand the giddy/tearful experience of first seeing the vast rack of Sennelier pastels in the art store. Truly euphoric :)

  • intresting

  • I think canson mi teintes comes as paper and mounted on board now, can buy large sheets of paper or tablets in 9x12 and 11x14

  • Sennelier was the first set of high quality pastels I ever bought, I love them! Wish I could afford more right now, but not in the budget at this time

I am really enjoying this channel
