Sorry for the -long- delay in posting a new video. I really wanted to catch a beauty chrome winter run fish for it, but this river's winter steelhead run was very poor. And it's not very good to begin with! It took me months of fishing and filming to produce this video. I really hope it inspires some people to get out and give back to the resource.

There should be more frequent videos uploaded soon. Enjoy! Leave a comment!

  • I think fish farms are a real problem for many wild fish

  • Indeed, the effects of industrial fish farming have had a serious toll on wild fish stocks. The irony is that fish farming can also be the biggest support to wild stocks, by transfering pressure.

I am a fan of the salmon ranching concept. Ranching creates a high returns of high quality fish specifically for commercial harvest. The polution generated by typical fish farming is minimized, plus the escapement spawn in the wild and provides nutrients for wild fish.

  • The new tubes look nice, are all the hatcheries getting new tubes or just the hatchery that you brood for?

  • Each hatchery supplies their own tubes. I've seen various designs and quality. This tube is quite nice for holding the fish, but it is quite bulky and cumbersome to hike with.

  • @HookedonBC I think you didn't fish this river as there is no bait ban on it.

  • I fished this river today, I plan to fish it often this season so increase my chance of a first steelhead. where do I go to get one of these tubes? I want to help out the population.

another question... I noticed you said "re-bait the hook" on a bait ban river. Are you allowed to use bait if you volunteer at the hatchery?

    cheers

  • I like the old blue tubes myself but the newer black ones are nice because you can double up in them if need be.

    Nice work Fulc.
