It is a very small city and it seems very likely that he, and anyone else, would describe him as coming from Glasgow for the sake of having any idea where he actually lives.

I don't see how it is. Every Scottish person is "tagged" as being from Glasgow, making the rest of Britain believe its the only city we have. Billy Connely is fae Partick, not Glasgow and apparently Frankie Boyle is also meant to be fae Glasgow but I don't think he is either.
