I knew it was a fake out like HIMYM - too easy to have Elena as the Mom! But I agree with @givemeavampirekiss - Stefan & Caroline should totally be Marshall and Lily in this scenario.
Although that kind of leaves Bonnie as Barney and that just so does not work!x
