  • recorded at the same session as "my gal Sal"-listen to the light touch but driving

rhythm of Walter Johnson-a very good drummer.

  • @MrRabkent ...I agree..."driving rhythm" ...great musicians ,arrangement etc ...but the tempo also.!!!!

  • @ mijumaru..Your certainly not weird! You probably have the ear to hear the magic. As Satchmo said (if your young type that word in Gooogle and discover this Giant) .."there are only 2 kinds of music ...good and bad". That holds true for the ages....good for you.

  • Thanks..I love both version...love the tempo on this one!

  • Ohhhh this is a gem! Not only was Fletcher a great arranger and band leader but had wonderful musicians...thanks for this great rendition of My Pretty Girl. I like it better than the Whiteman version or was it Goldkette?

  • Damn Catchy!!!

  • An extraordinary bandleader that has never gotten the credit he deserves. The reason that Benny Goodman later hired him as an arranger was because Fletcher had been such a big inspiration when he was forming his own Big Band sound. You can also hear it in some of Glenn Miller's music. Thank you very much for sharing this posting...

  • My mother thinks I'm weird for liking this music...

  • Benny Carter, Harvey Boone, Coleman Hawkins reeds

Russel Smith, Bobby Stark, Rex Stewart trumpets

    Jimmy Harrison, Claude Jones trombones

    Fletcher Henderson piano

    Clarence Holliday guitar

    John Kirby bass

    Walter Johnson drums

  • I love this rendition of "My Pretty Girl" by the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra. Henderson was one of the greatest band leaders and arrangers during the Jazz Era and often arranged for other bandleaders such as Benny Goodman. If this song doesn't set your toes to tapping nothing will. Enjoy!

  • Boy, the change from banjo to bass as the anchor of the rhythm section makes a hell of a difference. The banjo seems straight up dixie to me. And I'm sure it influenced everyone's playing. The rhythm section makes this number swing and it'd be nice to hear this with an upright bass. Ace recording, nonetheless. Thanks for uploading it.

  • Great!

The other notable version is by Goldkette (I have that one on my channel)
