Honestly? A lot of them. Useful apps on them for soldiers, maps, compasses, weather. There are even apps that help calculate ballistics by doing things like calculate windage and the rotation of the earth so that taking a long range shot is possible. Not to mention, music is a must for any soldier. Something to relax with or get pumped up by is great to have available. There are even Ipod/iphone cases that can be connected to the rails on an assault rifle so it's right there with you.
