Rescuing a 45-ton whale is dangerous, difficult work for experts only. The Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary's rescue team disentangles this whale without entering the water. Using a modified whaling technique,"kegging," they slow the whale and keep it at the surface to safely cut it free. Authorized by NOAA Fisheries' Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Program, and working with NOAA Fisheries, state agencies and others, they have rescued over 70 whales from life threatening entanglements.
Ed is amazing. I think the whale singing at the end of this video is thanking Ed and the crew for her freedom.
