Byakuren/ White Lotus" was the buddhist given by master So Doshin to his student Masayasu Sugihara...
When Kancho Sugihara choose to found his own method after Sodoshin's death, he kept his given first name (Byakuren) by respect of past master...

I have found out that there is a lady, nidan/sandan? in Pocatello, Idaho, and also another teacher of Shorinji Kempo in Boise. Such a wonderful style.

kolsyrade you are right about the Byakuren. I've been training in Byakuren for the last 5 years. I've attended several seminars taught by Sugihara Kancho in Okinawa. Good video! How did you get it?

in shorinji kempo techniques are organised in diferent families. "byakuren ken" is the name of one of these families. Masayasu Sugihara was specialised in this family of techniques.
by the way the shorinji kempo logo is no longer the manji, it's now a double shield with 4 lotus flowers
The byakuren founders real name (used by all but Doshen So who called him Byakuren) is Masayasu Sugihara, a personal student of Doshen So, and at times served as his bodyguard.
Byakuren has close ties to shin-kyokushin, and often participate in their competitions.
It is based on shorinji, but has grown to resemble kyokushin and other knockdown karate styles (world Oyama, Esnhin, seidokaikan etc) very much.
BTW, a quick google showed Byakuren to mean "white lotus".
