Hephaestus is probably the only god Kratos truly regretted killing (Athena doesn't count, given her true plans), and even before he was disfigured, Aphrodite (the evil bitch) cheated on him with Ares. I pity the poor guy, and I also pity Hades, as he was (though harsh) a lot more honorable than the other gods, according to the myths. Aphrodite's probably behind him kidnapping Persephone( she probably had Eros/Cupid shoot him with one of those accursed love arrows). R.I.P., Hephaestus.

Exactly. Interestingly, I don't think Kratos holds any ill will towards Hephaestus for this, as when he talks to Pandora near the end, he mentions how Hephaestus had tried to keep her safe "just like any father should." I think that Kratos, in a way, maybe sympathized with Hephaestus. Notice that how Kratos killed him was nowhere hear as brutal as the other Gods. Remember, Kratos was also a father himself at one point.

@TheGuyAlwaysOnTime I learned this today actually,there are two stories to why Hephaestus' legs are lame,the first that is usually attributed to his broken body was that Zeus' wife Hera was upset with Zeus so she birthed Hephaestus by herself and he came out lame and she was disgusted by this and she cast him out of Olympus,the second is that Zeus threw him from Olympus and he broke both his legs and was never the same,either way he was always very fine blacksmith.
