Excerpt from Symphony No. 8 rehearsal featuring Bruckner Orchester Linz, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies as seen in the Scott Hicks film GLASS: a portrait of Philip in twelve parts now on DVD with over 3 hours of exclusive extras.
For 18 months Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning director Scott Hicks (Shine) followed the legendary Philip Glass across three continents, creating a remarkable portrait of this brilliant composer.
Ok this is maybe not a 'masterpiece', but it's direct, genuine, and not inaccessible like
much of the 'academic' contemporary music (eg Boulez,Lutoslawski) where you need a degree in astrophysics to understand the score. Saying that, I dont want to see music go the other way and descend into bland 'chillout' Eric Whitacre territory.

minor chords arpeggiated up and down like you would on a piano except using an orchestra. I swear sometimes I think Glass is getting away with being the literary equivalent of Dr Seuss, I don't hear anything brilliant about this.
