In states across the country, elected officials and right-wing pundits are calling not just for cuts to wages and benefits in the name of austerity, but even proposing laws to undermine labor unions' influence, and in fact, their very existence. Democracy Now! hosts a roundtable discussion with New York Times labor reporter Steven Greenhouse; Michael Zweig of the Center for Study of Working Class Life at SUNY Stony Brook; and Art Levine of the Washington Monthly.

  • Unions used to brag that they brought the 40 hr work week and higher wages across the board,

Public sector unions have brought the 32hr no benefits work week to the private sector. Something has to change.

  • they want the unions gone so they can then privatize the state jobs and they can make more profit.

  • I wonder how many state workers voted for the republicans?

  • Billionaires against unions!!

  • Try to tell all this to a tea bagger. It's like talking to a wall. A wall of stupid.
