With a slightly better evening than I had last Friday I decided to have another attempt at filming the Scarborough Flyer emerging from the tunnel at Huddersfield. This time she was only a few minutes late, and though she didn't announce her departure from the station this time around, she was still very audible coming through the tunnel. And I got the shot that I was after too. As a bonus for everyone I left the camcorder running to pick up the sound as she climbed away up the valley and on the way to Marsden, whilst filming the smoke pour out of the tunnel.

  • Very nice low light footage with the sound of Lizzie certainly making up for the lack of light.

    Cheers Phil.

  • @981smithy Thanks Phil. It was difficult for my camcorder to focus really, so it's yet another sound experience. But now I know about this location I will have a go next time in better light.

  • An interesting shot. Great sound. Bit difficult to see what is happening. Barry

  • @bkendlerA4 Thanks. Yes I appreciate that the video is rather dark. I was hoping that the evening light that I had was better than I had had the week before, particularly as there was no cloud cover this time around, but this part of the line is in a deep sided cutting so it gets dark very quickly.

  • magic, do like night shots and to hear the engine in the distance, both on the approach and the going away, I have a memory of watching the smoke and steam rolling out of a tunnel after the train has gone, often takes quite a while, really nice video mate, cheers.

  • @noelist Thanks Leon. I would have liked more light than what I had but I can't complain too much. The sound was fantastic. I could hear her well before I started filming. And, as I had heard her long after I had filmed her last week, I decided to let the camera record a little longer this time. Even after I had stopped filming smoke was still pouring out of the tunnel, and I could still hear her climbing away as I headed back to my car.
