Arjuna's Dilemma was commissioned in 2001 by MTG from Composer Douglas J. Cuomo. Arjuna's Dilemma is a
chamber opera based on a central story from the Bhagavad-Gita that juxtaposes and blends Eastern musical idioms
and Western new music components. Arjunas Dilemma is sung in English and Sanskrit with fragments of poetry by
the Indian mystic, Kabir, sung in Hindi. Joining Cuomo in the realization of this stunning work are director Robin
Guarino, music director Alan Johnson, choreographer John Kelly, set designer Donald Eastman, costume designer
Gabriel Berry, lighting designer Robert Wierzel, projection designer William Cusick, and sound designer David
Meschter.
It was thrilling to hear Humayun Khan blazing vocals in this beautiful piece by Douglas Cuomo. I cant imagine the time and effort that goes into a production like this. Marvelous !!!

This is a marvelous piece. The video doesn't convey how intensely visual it was in the BAM (and pre-BAM) incarnations. Doug Cuomo is just getting better and better. His 20 minute orchestral piece "Black Diamond Express Train to Hell" had its world premiere at Carnegie Hall last month, and it is a *knock-out.* The (normally somewhat jaded) crowd went wild. Watch this guy. He's the real thing.

This chamber opera got some great reviews and people really enjoyed it from what I know. A lot of creativity and thought went into this. Humayun Khan also added some powerful vocal flare to the show.

My wife and I went to the performance on Nov. 7, and it was marvelous. A tremendous credit to the composer, Douglas Cuomo, to the singers and musicians, and especially to Diane Wondisford who pulled it all together. The Bhagavad Gita is one of the great sacred texts of the world and this piece is a real tribute to it.
