Lost rights in Canada - Not long after Quebec approved gay marriage, the legislature discretely changed the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms so that parents no longer have any say in religious instruction of their children in schools.

  • This made me cringe seriously fuck you dude! My brother is gay and your denying his rights as a human being. Go fuck yourself.

  • No matter what you feel about gay marraige, you should be very scared that the pople of any state can remove the rights of the minority using the ballot box, and get away with it. That's the most immoral thing we've done in this country in a long time, by allowing this issue to be up for a vote. Thomas Jefferson said: "We are a Republic, not a Democracy. A Democracy is when 51 percent can remove the rights of 49 percent."

  • @lisztnut even if you could provide evidence that all that was true (which I highly doubt there is any evidence for claims like those) you still can't show why those things would be more desirable. Define for me the term "bigoted moron," and then tell me WHY it's wrong, not IF it's wrong, I'm sure we both agree on that. Even if you could show that the gay life style produces "good" things, it's based in the "appeal to consequences of a belief fallacy" and is not a valid justification

  • @hanohanonacowboy Yes thank you for your response and clearing that up for me.I completely agree that the right to stand up for your rights as individual and the duty of the state to protect these rights should not be taken lightly and it is clear your argument is that lawsuits maintain these rights and I fear for the liberal west if these rights were ever to be taken away.

  • @HavinaSirohia: "Principally i just felt that the use of the phrase "the new gay motto" wasn't apropriate or only true of homosexuals in the USA"

-- Yes, I did understand your basic comment and I agree. The video guy makes the common error of being against lawsuits only when he does not agree with their outcomes.

However, many of the most basic rights of citizens in this country came about as the result of lawsuits--sometimes over something as "trivial" as where one sits on a bus.

  • @HavinaSirohia Take a simple example: I am injured in an accident and cannot work. In the US I must often sue to gain access to health care and compensation for my wages. In the UK these things are taken care of by your social system. Here the payer will be the person who caused the accident. There the payer will be... well... you.

Not commenting on the relative merits of one system over the other. Just saying that what's a "health claim" in your country is a "lawsuit" here.

  • you fucking prick, the kids found out she was getting married and all wanted to go, the 2 or 3 kids that there parents had a problem with it stayed at school and did other things that day. The kids wanted to share in her special day, you fucking disgust me and just a few minutes ago you were talking about honestly. People like you twist the truth in order to spread your hateful message of intolerance, go fuck yourself, I have no obligation to tolerate intolerance.

  • hes right its not a hate crime to simply discriminate, you have to commit or threaten an act of violence against some based on sex, religion or sexual orientation. its actually illegal to discriminate against someone because of your or there religion. you can not for example deny a Muslim services that are open to the public because your religious beliefs, that will get you sued, just like if you deny services to gays because of your religious beliefs.

  • @hanohanonacowboy I appreciate your response but I have to disagree with you, you claim that "Lawsuits are the mechanism by which people are compelled to obey civil law in this country" I would respond by saying here in the UK it is completely the same I am just commenting on the cuture of some (not all) Americans to take trivial matters to court. Principally i just felt that the use of the phrase "the new gay motto" wasn't apropriate or only true of homosexuals in the USA

  • Let's put it this way. Allow gays to marry, and if you're going to even teach children about sex, teach ALL OF IT AND EVER KIND or NOT AT ALL! Keep your religion(s) out of it.

  • what you ought to know is that the people are not allowed to vote on the human rights of a minority group, the 4 judges ruled correctly it was unconstitutional. Just like prop 8 was and ruled unconstitutional for the same reason. The government is not allowed to say I can not marry the woman I love because i am not a man, it is sexist and discrimination based on my gender. that is what you ought to know.
