How to make puto bumbong using a Blendtec blender.
Puto Bumbong, named after the bamboo tube in which it is steamed. It is unusual among puto, coming in a long thin shape and a purple color. The elongated shape results from the method of cooking while its color comes from the violet pirurutong rice it is made of. It is served with grated coconut and brown sugar. Along with bibingka, it is often served outside churches around Christmas time. source: wikipilipinas.org

Disclaimer: I am not an expert puto bumbong maker. The ingredients and procedures found in this video is a result of internet and cookbook research and a few experiments.

  • K3vindust- Merry Christmas din po! Kung meron po na black rice at jasmine or any other rice, try nyo po i grind iyon. Just make sure powerful ang blender nyo. I think you can do away without the glutinous rice. On the otherhand, i saw one who made it with glutinous rice, colored it purple, made it like bilo bilo and then steamed it inside banana leaves. It might do specially if youre craving. Merry Christmas!

  • Gaficial27- kung banana leaves, check mo after 15-20 minutes. Goodluck! Merry Christmas!

  • nadzkhez- Turbinado po yung asukal, hindi po sya kasing tamis ng puting asukal at may halo pong sesame seeds. Gawa na po kayo, malapit na pasko!

  • @statsoflib- Thanks! I got the bamboos and the steamer from Divisoria. Yes, it is a special kind of steamer. You know, i tried just wrapping the mixture into the banana leaves and steam it using a regular steamer. When its done, I just cut it and shape it into cylinders. I guess the difference in taste is very subtle. It has more of the banana leaves infused flavor rather than the earthy, bamboo flavor. So, I guess, if you do it this way, a regular steamer will work just fine.

  • @kasoogreen- you sure can!

  • Thanks Bob! Im also a newbie. I found out, making this takes a lot of practice and trial and error. Goodluck on making the steamer. Let us know if the steamer that youre going to make is a success, Im sure there are others who might be interested to buy one from you! Ill try to post the bibingka soon, hopefully, before thanksgiving.
