Explaining the theme of "Mot Lyset":

Light for me is a powerful metaphor.
Light is life, it is knowledge and it is truth. Light illuminates everything, revealing what was once hidden in darkness.

Even the oldest, weakest and poorest man can have the brightest light inside him. It is caused by experience, reflection and understanding. Light is very similar to a grand perspective.

A Light can also convey life, knowledge and truth to others, becoming their Light. It can give others the means necessary to finding their own meaning, and their own perspective.
When a person is granted the presense of a Light, three things happen. His willpower becomes strong, his purpose more clear and his path illuminated.
Eventually, this person can proceed to becoming a Light himself. The essense of life - contained within a human body. A human that is able to uphold the elusive qualities of life, no matter what happens: Serenity, fulfillment and happiness.

Becoming a Light, for me, is equal to reaching Nirvana for the Buddhists. It is a long journey, but the illumination is attainable.

I have been granted a taste of it, and now I am thirsty for more.
This is my purpose.

Well, this song has sad and even scary feelings, but at the same time lyrics are pozitive and optimistic!For me this is the most amazing part of it.If it was written by some popular metal band/musician, the title would be "Towards the darkness" or something, and lyrics about destruction, suicide, despair etc.But enough of it! It`s so old, boring and stereotypicasl!Now It is time to speak about creation, about hope and light!And this why "Mot Lyset" is a masterpiece in my opinion.
