during a recent trip in Asia i was surprised at how easily accessible plastic surgery was for everyone... infact its not known as sugery, its called "beauty therapy" in some places.

Actually Asians aren't trying to look "whiter" by bleaching their skin but are trying to look "fairer". Fair complexions have been considered desirable throughout Eurasia for centuries, from Europe to India to Japan. It denoted someone of higher status who didn't have to work outside. The odd thing is that in America so many white people now want a year round tan which, of course, will make you look like old luggage by age 40. For all time people all over have tried to "improve" their looks.

FYI, the current standard of beauty in Asia, trace its roots to Japanese Anime. Japanese Anime trace its roots to Meiji Restoration when they decided to "Leave Asia, Join Europe" Japan started to encourage their people to be more like Europeans. In NYT, "Ugly Images of Asian Rivals Become Best Sellers in Japan" mentioned about Anime during Russo-Japanese war.
