Moors Valley Country Park, the 3rd most visited Country Park in England along with the neighboring Town of Verwood are under attack from a Hampshire County Council. They have a plan to extract minerals and subsequently create a Landfill the size of over 150 Football Pitches.
Natural Habitats, Public Health and Social Impacts will destroy this much loved area for all.
Please Help Stop this National Disgrace.

Stegsy is correct. The gases from landfills can be captured to produce electricity. Obviously there'd neeed to bean extraction plant to collect the gas and the sustainability of such an options depends on the rate at which the gases are emitted.
I have no idea of whether or not any feasability study has been undertaken to see whether such electricity generation at Purple Haze would be either technically feasable or economically justified.

shegsy apart from the pollution/smell issue and also the extra traffic problem. its about destoying a fantastic family outdoor activity center that is always voted one of the best attractions that this area has to offer!
get your facts and research on specific sites before harping on!!
p.s. I have never heard of the gases from a festering pit in the ground producing electricity??
purpose built centres use waste to produce electricity.
