  • You really miss the point of the cupcake scene. The tension in the scene is symbolic of the how poverty creates tension between needs. It is uncomfortable on purpose because poverty is uncomfortable and because it is uncomfortable to have your sexuality conflict with your hunger. This scene is more representative of the theme of poverty in the movie, though there are other ways that Leone expresses the tension of poverty. Max and Noodles relationship is a tension between friendship and crime
