This is something of a teaser from Philip Rosheger's Studio Recordings - recorded by engineer Jeffrey Finder on a tape drive in the earlier days of digital recording and recovered by me from a transfer by Phil's friend Ronnie Rugato from cassette. All eleven pieces in Studio Recordings are promised to be available as a CD or Download or both. Philip Rosheger was the winner of the 1972 Guitar Competition in Santiago de Compostela in Spain held by Maestro Segovia. Another winner of that competition has offered a link to Philip's work as a bonus. Until Philip tells me that an announcement is imminent that it will be for sale, I offer this video sample taken from a camcorder pointed at my computer with the visuals provided by the iTunes visual program. It is an archival recording. It isn't intended to sound like a finished product in the resolution of this upload. It is what it is. The playing of these two movements from Ravel's Mother Goose Suite does offer a sample of the brilliance of Philip Rosheger's playing and technique. This is a revised edition from what some of you may have heard before. I took some of the edge off the trebles and reduced the amplitude in this second edition. It should be kinder to your ears and speakers. Philip is pleased that so many have gotten to this link. Somebody write that man a grant!

  • This is pretty incredible... it's been ages since this was uploaded, but please, any news on the released recording?

Or possibly some sheet music so I can (attempt to) play this ?

  • Solo Guitar in San Francisco has his music and I'm under the impression that Tim Hall who has headed the San Francisco Guitar association has been selling Phil's sheet music too. He is TimHGuitar on YouTube I notice. Phil has been selling hard copies when he plays in public, but he is having a tough time and I doubt he'd be able to send anything. You can find him playing at the north Berkeley BART station especially around afternoon rush.

  • Philip - my favorite classical guitarist! Great to hear your playing again. I still treasure the memories listening to you on Delaware St. and in my small recording studio. Get in touch! - Jeff

  • I'm guessing this may be Jeff finder who may have originally recorded this on tape and is credited for it as it happens in the digital edition now in Michael Lorimer's possession and allegedly a work still in progress. I lay no claim to this if Phil is aware of it's being posted here which he is. . .

I'll phone him and tell him to look here, but he has been struggling with living situation issues. He is back in the bay area.

  • Phil came to visit a few days ago. I had not seen him since he left for Spain. Great to see him and to hear some of his new compositions. He is in the visiting mode lately and all his CA friends are called upon to help him make a good landing here. Brother can you spare a couch or a guest room? I have his number. Feel free to use this as a message board - a fan club as it were. It is rumored that Michael Lorimer may publish this hit and others. Thanks for the liner notes MPSShanahan.

  • Phillip is one of the very best classical guitarists in the world / I sincerely hope he is well and that he continues his performing and teaching ..

  • Spent the afternoon with him and Steven Bell in Live Oak park in Berkeley. Philip played several pieces...amazing of course. Bell sang some Spanish songs. Like a free concert in the park.

  • All hail the one whom even Mcartney acknowledges as having a "Roshegeresque' experience" (note perfect 1st time-dream state inspired) in writing "Yesterday".

    Thank you for posting this

  • Wow! I sure miss his playing & guitar lessons!

We used to do 2 hours or more back in 2000! I

spent hours and hours taking to him about the

    guitar,technique,and music.I'm hoping to see

him to take a guitar lesson in another week or

so.This economy has been tough and money has

    been tight!

  • He's back in Berkeley,CA for the moment and

continues to compose & perform.Philip has

truly earned the title of "master".
