  • Good question. Unfortunately it isn't so black and (tan) white. Sorry for the pun. Color changing has a lot to do with pedigree. Some dogs stay black, some turn to a steel blue, some turn from dark to a silver color. Do you know your breeder? That would be the best way to know for sure. Did you see your puppy's parents when purchasing? Did you visit the breeders home before purchasing? At one, their color is usually set, but there is no rule to this either. I wish I could help more.

  • @lukstruk Ah I need to ask you something! I am going to pick up a yorkie puppy in 2 weeks and when we went to visit the yorkies the guy said he would be black and tan. When he is older will he be like this?!

  • @yorkiedog1409 My first suggestion is to get a look at the parents. What do they look like? How old are they? If they are at least 2 years old, their coats should be where they are going to be color wise. Yorkie puppies change coat color(s) quite a bit till they reach adult hood. Sometimes you won't even recognize them. Has the breeder had other litters of the same breeding? Ask to contact those owners. What type of coat are you looking for? A steel blue coat is what the standard Yorkie coat is.

    thanks again.

  • I have a yorkie puppy, had him since christmas 2009, he is black and tan as all yorkie pups are, but my question is at what age does a yorkie change colour? and does all yorkie heads and feet go gold and back goes silvery blue, but at what age can i expect this?
