Nice try Singandnevertire....his record as governor on issues from taxes to life to spending were among the most conservative in Utah's recent history...not to mention the country at large.

A lot of people don't realize that all the wars of the 20th century we fought in were started by Democrats. The only exceptions being ex-Democrat Reagan (Grenada and Lebanon), Texan (formerly a Democrat stronghold) HW Bush, with Desert Storm,etc

But all the others were by officially Democrat Presidents: WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Bay of Pigs invasion, etc.

Originally both parties had active liberal, moderate and conservative wings. Depending on the state you were from, depended what kind of Republican or Democrat you were. If you were a Southern Democrat you were Conservative, if from anywhere else, you were living in a rural environment. (Republicans controlled the cities)

But if you were say, from Wisconsin - you'd be a Liberal Republican.

After the 1964 elections the parties became Left-of-Centre (Democrat) and Far-Right (Repub).

Southern Democrats want a hard-core Christian fundamentalist who is anti-choice. They are "Republican" only because of Nixon's Southern Strategy.

Actual Republicans are very secular, pro-choice, and very concerned about the rise of anti-science positions amongst Southerners. I remind you that the Abraham Lincoln was an Atheist. the First Republican President.

Good to know he adopted a chinese and an indian girl. Seems like a globally tuned guy, eloquent, man of ideas. I don't believe he would get the nod though. Republicans want some hard core chrisitian nut job who breathes pro-life, jesus and guns.
