China had completely dominated Vietnam for 1,000 years and did little to resist Chinese culture. Even after the Chinese left Vietnam didn't try to make their culture more Viet and choose to stay with Chinese traditions.
Vietnamese couldn't even create their own alphabet which is romanised and based on Chinese anyway.
Most people would want to travel to China rather than Vietnam. :P
