The people have enhanced their earnings from tea and rubber cultivations as Agalawatte in Kalutara was fast developing.The Agalawatta Pradeshiya Sabha in Kalutara District was under the rule of the United National Party for 32 years. But during the 2006 elections, the Freedom Alliance secured power. Thereafter Agalawatte started developing speedily. Earlier the local body possessed only one tractor and a road roller. However during the past five years, this local body was enriched with physical resources under the guidance of Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe.Physical resources started flowing into this Local Council with the support of foreign assistance. A majority which earn their living through tea and rubber cultivation are receiving an enhanced income. Plantations have been reawakened under the fertilizer subsidy given by the President. The Disaster Management Centre and the Auditorium built within the Agalawatte town have brought new rays to the area.The Government has mooted several projects to upgrade infrastructure of the area which has given priority to the cultivation of export crops. Main roads and sub roads have been expanded and developed. All these activities are taking place under the supervision of Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe
